Chandigarh lockdown news: Today's updates from your city

Amid prevalent chaos and uncertainty over access to the essential services and commodities during the lockdown, we bring you the latest updates from your city.
* Two deaths and four new Covid-19 positive cases were reported in Punjab on Sunday.
* Two days after testing positive for coronavirus, a 58-year-old man from a village in Karnal, who was undergoing treatment at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) in Chandigarh, died on Sunday evening.
* The first list of those who have completed home quarantine in Chandigarh was out on Saturday night. The 287 people have no symptom of Covid-19 but must stay inside to avoid any risk of transmission.
* Foreseeing the lockdown on March 20, the PGI’s blood bank had made a roadmap for staggered donation to continue the supply, 90% of which comes from volunteers.
* The UT administration has issued 100 passes to city-based wholesale traders to bring essential commodities from five states, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
* A large number of vegetable and fruits vendors camped outside the Sector 26 grain market on Sunday morning, sending social distancing for a toss. Things were later streamlined.
* Patients in the PGI’s Covid-19 hospital get cold shower during mild fever when they need a hot bath. The food is bad and not served on time, they say.
* Another member of the Tablighi Jamaat tested positive for Covid-19 in Himachal Pradesh. At present, there are seven Covid-19 positive cases in the state and all of them belong to the Tablighi Jamaat.
* Seven Covid-19 positive patients – all contacts of late Baldev Singh of Pathlawa village, who was the first Covid-19 casualty in Punjab – tested negative on Sunday, including 78-year-old Sant Gurbachan Singh. Four grandchildren of Baldev Singh tested positive on Sunday while his son has been declared cured after his second sample also tested negative.
* Punjab: Health camps in a few villages of Ropar district, including Chatamli, where husband of the sarpanch tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19), were held without permission of the health department and administration.
* About 23,000 qualified health professionals, including 935 doctors, have volunteered to help the Punjab government fight Covid-19 pandemic, giving much needed help to the overstretched workforce in the time of need.
* In a bid to escape from hospital, a 55-year-old Covid-19 suspect had a fatal fall from the sixth floor of Kalpana Chawla Medical college in Karnal on Monday morning.
* A 30-year-old son of the man who attended Tablighi Jamaat’s Markaz event at Nizamuddin in Delhi also tested positive of Covid-19 on Monday, taking the count to 16.
