Deepika Padukone has a kurta and anarkali for every occasion, here’s proof

From short chikankari kurtas to full-length flares, the Bollywood star knows how to make each outfit count

There’s no denying that Deepika Padukone can dial up the drama on the red carpet. But the Bollywood star pulls off a supermodel-esque off-duty looks with equal aplomb. When she’s not in sweatsuits and knotted T-shirts, Padukone loves to take out her light traditional wear for casual outings. Though Padukone has a penchant for straight kurtas, there's more to her collection. Fuss-free numbers make a regular feature in her travel wardrobe, whether she’s wearing the staple with a churidar like the ivory number she wore while catching a flight with Ranveer Singh or a switching things up with a loose fitted trousers—like the rani pink Lajjoo C silk version she wore a couple of months back.

On special occasions, the actor pulls all stops in stunning embroidered looks. For instance, on November 14, 2019, to celebrate their first anniversary, the couple visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar for which Padukone wore a regal maroon kurta and dhoti pants set that featured intricate gold embroidery. Even for her mehandi ceremony in Lake Como, the star opted for an embellished red and blush pink kurta set by Sabyasachi, which she wore with a matching net dupatta and a deep red shawl. In recent times, Chhapaak’s promotions saw Deepika Padukone in some stunning kurta sets; one of our favourites was the pastel yellow kurta set by Anjul Bhandari that came with voluminous gharara pants. Embellished with baby pearls, Austrian Swarovski and sequins, her outfit made for an outstanding pick. Another great look was the mustard yellow outfit by Sabyasachi that featured delicate beads and sequins, silk churidar pants, and a matching lightweight dupatta.

While she's never shied away from going bold with the colour palette of her kurtas, Padukone has always been a fan of pastel hues—think baby pink, peach, dove grey and ivory. Case in point: for their very first visit to Siddhivinayak temple as a married couple, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh coordinated in ivory Sabyasachi outfits. While Padukone opted for an anarkali in an earthy hue, which came with an embroidered dupatta that made the highlight of her look, Singh complemented her in a nude-toned kurta and pyjama set, worn with a matching jacket. On another occasion, Padukone was seen acing a pale Sabyasachi ensemble: a voluminous anarkali paired with pyjamas and a matching dupatta featuring tonal embroidered blooms. How can you style it like her? Throw on a pair of chaandbalis and tan juttis, and you are good to go.
