Peter Granata makes a good point in his letter "Electrification push puts security at risk" (March 23). While we now are producing vast amounts of oil, this has only recently been the case, and thus we had a foreign policy that first and foremost was designed to protect oil supplies from foreign suppliers, many who were not our friends, costing us dearly in dollars and lives.
Furthermore, we should be minimizing the risk he describes by developing distributed energy sources like rooftop solar for many more reasons than national security. In addition, pipelines can be damaged and destroyed just as easily as the electric grid. Going all electric with local and microsources of power is the way of the future.
