KALYAN: The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation is on the edge after a 67-year-old woman from a densely populated area in Dombivli (East), who had tested positive for Covid-19 on March 31, succumbed at Kasturba Hospital and a 17-year-old boy escaped from the isolation ward in Shastri Nagar Hospital late on Saturday. The teenager's test result is awaited, said health officials.
The deceased, who was suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure, had no travel history, said officials. The woman was initially admitted in a private hospital on March 25, and was shifted to Kasturba on March 30. After her Covid-19 positive report came in the next day, her family members and close contacts were also tested. Her son, daughter-in-law and two neighbours tested positive for Covid-19; they are undergoing treatment at Kasturba.
Officials said the teenager, along with his family members and building residents, had been shifted to the hospital as they were high-risk contacts of a Covid-19 patient. "We are looking for the boy. We even checked his house, but he was not there. We need to find him as soon as possible as he could prove to be a risk," said Dilip Raut, assistant police commissioner, Dombivli division.
On Sunday, four new Covid-19 positive cases were detected in Dombivli, taking the total in the twin city of Kalyan-Dombivli to 28. Both Kalyan and Dombivli were sealed last week. Of the four new patients, three are from Dombivli east-a 75-year-old woman and a seven-year-old girl who were close contacts of a Covid-19 positive patient, and a 54-year-old woman who got infected through community transmission-and one from the west-a 24-year-old woman who had returned from Paris and was under home quarantine. She has been admitted in Kasturba.
