FATEHGARH SAHIB: Two women who attended the Tablighi Jamaat from March 10 to 13 and were residing at Manaili village in Fatehgarh Sahib have tested positive for coronavirus.
Both have been qurantined at the Khamano civil hospital and were shifted to Gian Sagar Hospital near Banur after their test results came positive.
Confirming the development, Fatehgarh Sahib civil surgeon Dr NK Aggarwal said that health teams had collected the samples of 32 individuals of whom the two women have been tested positive.
They had participated in the religious congregation held at Nizamuddin in Delhi from March 10 to 13.
Both the victims originally hail from Aurangabad in Maharashtra and had been staying at Fatehgarh Sahib along with four other women and men. They have also been quarantined while none have so far shown any symptoms of the disease.
After the two women tested positive, the health authorities ordered deployment of police personnel around Khamano subdivision and sealing of their village. The health teams are also conducting a survey of the village to ascertain if any other villagers were showing symptoms associated with coronavirus.
The Fatehgarh Sahib health authorities have so far taken samples of as many as 32 persons who had attended the religious congregation and only 2 have been found positive.
Dr Aggarwal said that the health department was keeping a close watch on the development and all efforts were being made to make sure that the disease is curtailed right away. "The authorities are also trying to identify persons who had come in contact with the two women. Their samples will also be collected and sent for testing," Dr Agarwal said.
