Holy Week services in Mangaluru go online

Mangaluru: Most Rev Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangalore diocese, delivered the Eucharist of Palm Sunday online, from Rosario Cathedral, his temporary base, a place from where he will operate till the mass on Easter Sunday, that will be held at the chapel in Bishop’s House.
Fr Vijay Victor Lobo, public relations officer of the diocese, said that the parish priest and his assistant were on hand to assist the bishop, as he addressed the laity in a live telecast of the Palm Sunday mass through Divine TV and other web portals, and live streamed it using social media. This will also be the case on other important occasions during the Holy Week, including Maundy Thursday, Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday, Fr Lobo explained
Due to the naionwide lockdown owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the ritual of washing feet, which is done by the bishop, will not be held this year, Fr Lobo said. Christians will observe the Way of the Cross in their homes on Good Friday, with the bishop leading the same from the Cathedral at 11am. The bishop, in a ceremony later that evening, will conduct the Good Friday liturgy from the cathedral, he added.
