PUNE: As many as 14 people tested positive for novel coronavirus infection (Covid-19) in the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits on Saturday, pushing up the tally of positive cases in the Pune Metropolitan Region to 89.
Eight of the infected persons are from the from Pune Municipal Corporation (
PMC) limits and six - five men and a woman - are from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits. Pavan Salve, the chief medical officer of the PCM, said 21 people tested positive in the township so far. Of them, a total of 12 people has been discharged after isolation and treatment.
Of the eight persons tested positive in the PMC limits, four have been quarantined at Naidu hospital. The remaining four earlier got admitted to Sassoon General Hospital for symptoms like breathlessness and tested positive for the contagion. None of them have any history of international travel or proximity to known infected individuals or their close contacts.
A health official of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) said, "None of the four who tested positive (admitted to Naidu Hospital) on Saturday has any recent history of foreign travel or any traceable contact history to infected people."
Among the four quarantined at Naidu Hospital is a 40-year-old man, a resident of Bund Garden road. A 60-year-old man from Sayyednagar - a slum in Hadapsar - also tested positive for Covid-19. The third infected person is a 54-year-old man from Mangalwar Peth. The fourth Covid-19 patient is a middle-aged man, who is a resident of Wanowrie.
Among the four admitted patients at Sassoon hospital is a 70-year-old man. He is a resident of Kashevadi in Bhavani Peth. He was admitted for mild breathlessness on March 3.
A 48-year-old man admitted to Sassoon hospital for similar complaints on March 2 also tested positive for the contagion. A 77-year-old man from Ghorpadi Peth, a known patient of hypertension and diabetes, also tested positive for Covid-19. A 40-year-old man from Mangalwar Peth, admitted early on March 4, also tested positive for the infection.
"None of them have any recent history of international travel or traceable source of infection," said an official from the Sassoon hospital.
The Pune Metropolitan Region has reported two Covid-19 casualties so far. Both had no history of foreign travels.
One released from hospital
Pimpri Chinchwad: A covid-19 positive patient was discharged from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)-run Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri on Saturday.
The person was released after the civic body received negative report for the second swab test.
The discharged patient has been directed to remain home quarantined for 14 days.
