Andhra Pradesh: Coronavirus cases spike in Kurnool and Chittoor districts

TIRUPATI: Coronavirus cases spiked across Kurnool and Chittoor districts in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
According to the medical bulletin released by the officials, 23 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported at various parts of Kurnool district on Sunday morning. While 11 cases were reported in Kurnool city alone, three cases each, were reported at Nandyal town and Kodumur, two cases at Nandikotkur, and one case each were reported at Atmakur, Banaganapalle, Gadivemula and Panyam.
With 23 COVID-19 cases reported in a single day, the total number of cases in Kurnool district went up to 27 on Sunday. Officials said 26 patients out of the total 27 who contracted coronavirus, were linked to the Tablighi Jamaat event at Delhi.
District collector G Veerapandian said, out of the 99 samples tested at VDRL labs at Tirupati and Anantapur, 76 patients tested negative, while 23 patients tested positive. Samples of 217 more patients have been sent for medical examination to rule out COVID-19.
G Veerapandian appealed to the people of the district not to panic but cooperate with the district administration in effectively implementing the lock-down measures, which can help prevent the further outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the district.
Meanwhile, 7 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in Chittoor district on Sunday morning, taking the overall number of positive coronavirus cases in the district to 17.
District collector Dr Narayana Bharat reviewed the spike in the COVID-19 positive cases in the temple city of Tirupati as well as other places across the district on Sunday.
The town wise break up of COVID-19 positive cases in Chittoor district is Tirupati - 5 cases, Palamaner - 3, Srikalahasti - 3, Renigunta - 2, Nagari - 2, Yerpedu - 1 and Nindra - 1.
District collector Dr Narayana Bharat Gupta reiterated that all the towns where COVID-19 positive cases were reported were designated as red zones and all entry and exit to the towns was sealed off as per the COVID-19 protocols.
