WESTPORT — Cumberland Farms shut down two stores in Westport on Friday after a delivery driver recently tested positive for COVID-19.

A statement issued by Cumberland Farms to The Standard-Times confirmed that the infected delivery driver had visited the stores located at 596 State Road and 809 Main Street in Westport.

“Yesterday we were notified that a delivery driver who visited the two Cumberland Farms stores in Westport tested positive for COVID19,” said the regional convenience store and gas station chain.

“The driver was sent home and all the team members who were at the stores at the time were contacted and told to stay home and to contact a health care professional. We are working with the local Board of Health, and as a precautionary measure, both stores are being deep cleaned and sanitized.”

The Westport Board of Health and Health Director Matt Armendo have not yet responded to a request for comment.

Both stores were completely closed down by 1 p.m. Friday afternoon, with makeshift notices posted on the doors reading, ‘We are closed until further notice,’ and ‘Sorry, we are closed at this time.’

According to its official website, Cumberland Farms owns and operates nearly 600 stores across eight states, employing over 6,000 people. The chain opened the first ever convenience store in the Northeast in 1962.
