RAJKOT: A total of 100 swords were found from the possession of four persons who were arrested in Mangrol of Junagadh district on Saturday night. Also arrested was the arms dealer who had supplied the weapons to the accused.
According to police, the swords had come in parcels in the bus from Narayan Sarovar in Kutch. The parcels were put in the bus at Anjar.
“We had received a tip-off that the consignment containing swords was supposed to come, following which we kept a watch. As the accused, Shoyeb Chhapara (20), Imtiyaz Bumadia (18), Yaqub Bumadia and Qadar Girnari, both aged 35, took the delivery of the parcels and were going on their bikes, we nabbed them,” said R R Chauhan, sub-inspector with Mangrol town police station.
When caught, the accused produced a bill which was of cutleries. However, when the cops checked the parcels, they discovered swords inside the parcels. During their interrogation, the accused said that one Hasan Vanjha had sought the supply of the swords from Anjar, following which the police arrested Vanjha (40) from Mangrol.
During his interrogation, Vanjha said that one Irfan from Anjar had sent the supply of the weapons and that he had procured the swords with the intention to sell them. Following this revelation, the police have launched a manhunt for Irfan.
