MOHALI: In a joint undercover operation, national and state agencies have busted a
terror module in Mohali with the arrest of one suspect. Source said during the Friday late night operation, sleuths recovered one AK-47, one sniper rifle, hand grenades, two pistols and few lakhs rupees in fake currency from the accused.
Sources said the National Investigating Agency (NIA) and
Punjab Police's Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU) had raided a flat in Block B of The Eminence housing society in Singhpura area of Zirakpur in Mohali. The operation lasted for around 2 hours starting 12.30am, they added. The accused has been identified as Surinder Singh alias Sikender, who was living there along with his wife and two children, said sources, adding that he is suspected of being a part of the terror module in Punjab. Mohali police, however, are tight lipped about the operation. Mohali SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal said, "We have no information about any such operation at Zirakpur."
Some residents of the housing society claimed that they have been asked by the security agencies not to share any CCTV footages with anyone and even taken the DVRs of the society to check the movement of the suspect.
