Bengaluru: Man held for duping woman on marriage site

BENGALURU: A 28-year-old man was arrested for cheating a 36-year-old divorced woman of Rs 6 lakh on the pretext of getting her a Rs 70 lakh loan.
Manjunath alias Rahul and Suraksha (name changed on request) met on a matrimonial portal in January. Manjunath faked his identity and introduced himself as Rahul. He told Suraksha he was a bank manager and a divorcee. He promised to get her a loan to boost her business. When Manjunath asked her for a processing fee, Suraksha gave him Rs 6 lakh in multiple instalments.
Manjunath began evading her after that and Suraksha realised she had been cheated. When police arrested him, they found he was unemployed and father a three-year-old. He'd passed PU and was active on matrimonial websites, claiming to be a divorcee.
