Coimbatore malls, schools to shut till March 31

To check the spread of Covid-19, shopping malls in the city and movie halls in the district’s border areas will remain closed till March 31 along with nursery and primary classes, from LKG to Class V.

After chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami ordered the State-wide closure on Sunday, Coimbatore collector K Rajamani ordered that 10 cinema theatres in the district’s border taluks such as Pollachi, Kinathukadavu and Anaimalai will remain closed till March 31. Representatives of three prominent shopping malls in the city — Brookefields Mall on Krishnasamy Road, Fun Republic Mall on Avinashi Road and Prozone Mall in Saravanampatti — announced that the malls will also remain closed.
The collector requested people not to congregate in religious as well as public places. He instructed industrial and other organisations not to conduct events where people would gather in large numbers.
The forest department has closed the Kovai Kuttralam falls for a week.
Officials of the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation said they have sanitized bus stands and shopping malls in the city by spraying sanitizer solution. The civic body has also sensitized sanitary workers on Covid-19 and has deployed them to create awareness among public.
Health officials said a 108 ambulance has been earmarked to carry patients with Covid-19 symptoms.
A communication from the Southern Railway said disinfectants were sprayed on the exteriors and interiors of all coaches. “Audio announcements and videos are being played on a regular basis to create awareness about precautionary measures against Covid-19. We have withdrawn supply of woollen blankets for AC coach passengers and will remove curtains in all classes of AC coaches,” it added.
