NEW DELHI: The Delhi
government on Monday announced to shut down all gyms, night clubs, spas till March 31. The government has also decided to prohibit gatherings having presence of of over 50 persons.
Addressing a press conference on steps taken by his government to prevent the spread of
Covid-19, Delhi chief minister
Arvind Keriwal said that
weddings have been excluded for now from the restrictions imposed on gatherings. However, Kerjiwal rrequested people to postpone the wedding dates, if possible.
Coronavirus outbreak live updates"All gyms, night clubs, spas will be closed till March 31. Any gathering with more than 50 persons excluding weddings will not be allowed. For weddings also, we request if they can be postponed then please do so," said Arvind Kejriwal.
Delhi has been witnessing sit-in protests at Shaheen Bagh and Jamia Millia Islamia against the new citizenship law for over 90 days. The women of Shaheen Bagh had said the protesters were being provided with masks and hand sanitisers and there was no need to be scared of coronavirus.
Kejriwal said that his government will try to place hand sanitisers at maximum places to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
All auto-rickshaws and taxis will be disinfected for free to prevent the spread of the deadly disease, he said, adding the government will also examine the feasibility of thermal screening of the passengers in the
Delhi Metro.
"All autos, taxis would be disinfected for free; hand sanitisers will be placed at maximum places. We will examine if thermal screening for coronavirus can be done in Delhi Metro as well," said Kejriwal.
Kejriwal said that government is trying to provided best possible facilities to the people quarantined at various places in Delhi.
"We have arranged sufficient beds if cases increase and hospitalisation is needed. Quarantine facilities have been set up at three hotels - Lemon Tree, Red Fox, IBIS," the chief minister said.
Delhi government has already closed schools, colleges till March 31 as a preventive measure to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
