Man poses as cop to extort truckers, held

GURUGRAM: A Delhi-based businessman has been arrested for allegedly posing as a district superintendent of police (DSP), Gurugram, and extorting money from truck drivers on Delhi-Gurugram expressway.
The man, identified as Abhishek Malik, was caught red-handed from Kherki Daula on the Delhi-Gurugram expressway on Saturday while he was charging money from a truck driver. Police said, he confessed of charging around Rs 100 from the truck driver.
During the initial investigation, it was found that Malik runs a shoe shop in Delhi. In a bid to make easy money, he along with a woman used to travel to Delhi-Gurugram expressway and extort money from truck drivers posing as cops.
According to police, sub-inspector Sajjan Singh from Kherki Daula police station was on his routine patrolling when he spotted a person negotiating with a truck driver on Delhi to Jaipur side of the expressway.
“I reached the spot and inquired the accused about their identity. In the meantime, the woman who was sitting inside the car, fled from the spot,” Singh added. Malik was produced before a court and sent to judicial custody.
