Fake currency: 3 detained under NSA

Coimbatore: City police commissioner Sumit Sharan on Saturday detained three men under the National Security Act,1980, for circulating counterfeit currency.
A team led by sub-inspector P Suresh attached to the Saravanamapatti (crime) police station had seized fake notes amounting to Rs 60,000 from S Kidhar Mohammed, 66, of Vadvalli and D Mahendran, 39, of Kavundampalayam on February 22. The duo told police that E Suryakumar, 32, of Thiruvalluvar Nagar on Thadagam Road had given them the notes for circulation.
Police raided Suryakumar’s house and seized computers, scanners, printers and counterfeit currency notes amounting to Rs 2.64 lakh.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that Mohammed, who was earlier arrested for circulating counterfeit currency, had taught Suryakumar, who was facing huge losses in his business, how to make the fake notes. Mohammed asked him to make the notes and agreed to circulate them with Mahendran’s help.
Police had booked the trio under sections 489 (C) (possession of forged or counterfeit curreny notes or bank notes), 489 (D) (making or possessing instruments or materials for forging or counterfeiting currency notes or bank -notes) of the Indian Penal Code.
