Canadian man, wife held 22-lakh fraud

Ludhiana: Payal police have arrested a Canadian citizen and his wife for allegedly duping a villager from Ghudani area of Rs 22 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. Police identified the accused as Brag Pit of Toronto and Rupali Sahu of Dehradun.
In his police complaint, Kuldeep Singh of Ghudani said he had met the couple at the office of an immigration company in Ludhiana. He said the duo promised to send him abroad and took Rs 21.80 lakh from him.
The complainant said the accused neither sent him abroad nor returned the money after which he lodged complaint with the police.
Payal police have started a probe into the matter. Police later booked the accused for fraud.
Police officials said the couple was arrested from Dehradun on March 12 after which they were produced before a court for police remand. The accused were produced in a court again on Sunday which sent them to judicial custody.
Cops said the accused were wearing masks as they had come from a foreign country before being arrested. They added that couple had a love marriage.
