First coronavirus positive case detected in Odisha, patient returned from Italy

BHUBANESWAR: A 31-year-old man from Bhubaneswar tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday making him the first person in the state to be reported of having the disease.

The 31-year-old man is a resident of Baragada area in the city. He had returned from Italy to India on March 6 and remained in self-quarantine in New Delhi for a week. He came to Bhubaneswar by train and reached here on March 13.
"He came to Capital Hospital on Saturday with flu like symptoms and his samples were sent for Covid-19 test. He has been admitted to isolation ward in the hospital and his health condition is stable and undergoing treatment," said public health director Dr AK Mohanty. He further added that the government has already started tracing the persons who came in contact with the patient and will take necessary action as per the WHO guidelines.
The samples of the person will be sent for test after seven days and he will be in hospital until two consecutive reports come negative, official sources said.
An emergency meeting of the core team of state government on coronavirus is scheduled to be held at 10am on Monday to decide the next course of action.
Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar municipal corporation has intensified cleanliness in the said locality.
