55-year-old woman trampled to death by elephant

Coimbatore: An 55-year-old woman was trampled to death by an elephant near Chennampatti village abutting the forests of Andiyur in Erode district on Sunday . The deceased was identified as S Vellaiammal, 55 from Kolathur in Salem district.
Vellaiammal and Kulanthaiammal had gone to Neethipuram in Chennampatti forest range for grazing goats. Vellaiammal noticed an elephant and started to run from the area. However, the elephant chased her and trampled her to death.
Field staff from Chennampatti forest range rushed to the area and sent the body to the Bargur government hospital for postmortem . Kulanthaiammal was admitted at the government hospital.
