Navjot Singh Sidhu's relinks with Punjab via new channel

AMRITSAR: After hitting a quiet note in state politics for over nine months, former Punjab minister and Congress MLA Navjot Singh Sidhu on Saturday "reconnected himself with his supporters, followers and people of Punjab" by announcing the launch of "Jittega Punjab", a channel on YouTube - a video-sharing platform.
According to a press release issued by the office of Amritsar East MLA, "Jittega Punjab" - which literally means Punjab will win - invites all like-minded people for discussions, interviews and exchange of views "to propel Punjab towards revival and renaissance".
In the first 4-minute video, Sidhu speaks of "clarity of thought", followed by his signature one-liner: "The power of the people must return to the people".
It’s Sidhu in one-way messaging, say detractors
Sidhu’s announcement comes nearly two weeks after his meeting with All India Congress Committee (AICC) working president and general secretary Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to discuss his ‘road map’ for the state and “his resurrection plans to bring back Punjab to its pristine glory”.
Exhorting people not to lose faith as Punjab, the former minister says that Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Shaheed Bhagat Singh, who were the epitome of the state’s glorious past, good governance, courage, sacrifice as well as role models for future generations, are the icons of ‘Jittega Punjab’ while the logo of the channel is inspired by Punjab’s state bird Northern Goshawk.
Sidhu’s detractors, however, see the launch of the channel as opening an oneway communication with the people of Punjab as he would still not be available to the people of his constituency or those who need him to raise issues in the assembly sessions, which he has skipped in the recent past.
