It rained 300% more this March in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: The city has received almost 300% more rains this March compared to same month last year, according to the met department data. By mid-March 2020, the city has already received 70.6mm rainfall, while the figure for the entire month in 2019 was 17.5mm. The met department expects another spell of rain in the last week of current month.
The department’s data for last three years shows that in 2017, the city received 21.8mm rain, and it rained the most — 16.3mm — on March 11 that year. In the same month in 2018, 4.6mm rain was recorded, with maximum 2.8mm pouring on March 4. In 2019, total rain received in March was 17.5mm and the highest, 9.9mm, was on March 3. This year, it rained the most this month on March 7 — 25.2mm.
Surinder Pal Singh, director, metrological department, said rain received in the city this year is more than last few years, and due to western disturbance, more is expected in the last week of month.
For the next week, he said weather would be largely clear and the Tricity could experience a rise in temperature.
On Saturday, the city got 15mm rainfall, due to which the maximum temperature was 20 degrees Celsius, 7 degrees less than for this time of the year, and the minimum temperature was 12.7 degrees. On Sunday, as per met the forecast, there will mainly clear sky, with maximum temperature at 23 degrees Celsius and minimum 12.
