Schools under NMRDA to be closed till March 25 only

Nagpur: While schools and colleges under Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) limit and rural area will remain closed till March 31, but the schools that come under Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) will be closed only till March 25 only. The decision to this effect was taken after a meeting of district collector, education officials and ZP CEO, creating a lot of confusion among several schools.
NMRDA covers everything under the 25km radius area which starts right after city limits. So in a simplified explanation, it is the area between Nagpur city and rural areas. Koradi, Hingna, Kamptee, Khapri etc are some examples of the places that come under NMRDA.
The entire confusion started with the state government circular which said that areas under corporation, council and panchayat will be shut down till March 31. This circular missed mentioning the areas under NMRDA which is why the local authorities were in a fix. They raised the issue with higher-ups and were informed that it can be sorted out at local level.
Speaking to TOI, resident deputy collector Ravindra Khajanchi said, “The collector held meeting with Zilla Parishad CEO in this regard today. Then, he took decision for restrictions in the NMRDA area only up to March 25 as of now. It is because there are no cases from the NMRDA area. Further decision to extend the closure will be taken well before March 25 after a formal review of the situation.”
A principal, whom TOI spoke to, said the decision does not make sense to them. “Maximum schools of CBSE are in rural areas because they are located just outside the city. But majority of students there come from Nagpur. So, in any case, maximum students have to come to their schools or colleges from Nagpur, which is under lockdown. There is no point in such decisions,” he said.
Another principal said it is tough for them to explain this to parents. “On Saturday and Sunday morning, we sent SMS to parents announcing closure of schools till March 31. Now, this decision will change everything and put us in a fix. Parents will also be livid with us when the next date goes out,” she said.
