Coronavirus: No morning assembly, excursions, exhibitions in Assam educational institutes

GUWAHATI: The state education department on Saturday issued instructions to all educational institutes of the state not to hold the morning assembly, exhibitions and excursions with immediate effect for a month as a preventive measure against possible outbreak of coronavirus.

On the other hand the tourism department also issued an advisory for international and domestic tourists travelling to Assam to follow all precautionary health measures as advised by WHO for their own safety and to avoid spread of the virus.

State education department commissioner and secretary Preetom Saikia in the instructions issued stated that “Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a deadly contagious virus that had affected large section of the population globally” and “‘there is an urgent need of immediate preventive interventions to contain its outbreak in our State”
“There shall not be any form of 'Morning Assembly' in the Schools, Colleges, Higher Educational institutions etc. , no exhibitions, etc. shall be organised , no excursions or exposure visits shall be undertaken by the schools, colleges, higher educational institutions,” education department instructed.

The education department also said that there should be “awareness, sensitization of the students and enforcement of preventive interventions amongst the students by the teachers such as frequent hand wash that should start with the commencement of classes, respiratory etiquettes (using handkerchief over mouth while coughing and sneezing) avoid gatherings etc.” while and the heads of the institutions will ensure necessary sanitation measures.
The department stated that these preventive measures have to be made effective, immediately and shall remain in force April 15.
Similarly the tourism department’s advisory states, “With regard to domestic tourists coming from areas where prevalence of corona virus is from medium to high rate, they are to take all necessary precautionary measures including clinical screening if needed.”
All tourism officials have been asked monitor movements or domestic and international tourists in all tourist destinations and ensure compliance of all precautionary treasures to be taken in respect of COVID -19.
“All tourists are requested to avoid crowded places and public gatherings and adopt strategies for social isolation,” the advisory states.
