This year again we launched this notebook collection drive at the school level and other places from the last week of February. We are meeting the school heads, parents, team leaders working in various companies, etc creating awareness and hand over the used notebooks by students. The idea is saving trees as to manufacture notebook papers, a large number of trees are cut," said
Satheesh Metri, district coordinator,
Youth for Seva organization which carrying out this initiative. Metri, an MSW graduate informed that both used and unused notebooks are collected under this drive.
"We are meeting all the school heads, techies working in various companies to spread a word on this movement," he explained.
"Our aim is increasing the reuse of the notebooks which many times end with becoming waste," he informed.
According to the activists, many are donating even textbooks. "We are collecting the textbooks also donated by the people. If we get enough number of textbooks, we are planning to launch a library to help the poor children by keeping these books," concluded Sateesh.
