SURAT: An accused wanted in a 21-year-old robbery case was arrested by the city crime branch from Sachin on Friday.
Ramsagar alias
Sagar Ramnarayan Pal (48), a resident of
Gokulnagar in Sachin was employed as textile worker at the Jasmit Silk
Mills at Sachin GIDC in 1999. The accused left the job after few months of joining and allegedly planned robbery with few of his accomplices at the mill.
On January 22, 1999, the accused and his accomplices
Sunil Jaiswal, Jitendra alias Pappu Singh, Ajay Bengali, Mohammed Nizam and
Shanker Mohapatra, struck at the mill at late night with weapons. The security guard and few workers inside the mill were taken hostage and that the accused broke open the lock of the cupboard where the cash for the workers’ wages was kept by the mill owner.
Police sources said that the accused escaped with Rs 4.70 lakh cash from the cupboard and was on the run since then.
Police sub-inspector, crime branch C R Desai said, “A case of robbery was registered in the Sachin police station in 1999. The police was on the lookout for the accused involved in the robbery case, but could not find him. However, the crime branch sleuths had gathered specific information on the accused and that he was arrested from Sachin.”
