Honda Cars India is all set to reveal the 2020 City in the country on March 16. Now, an RTO document has revealed crucial information about the City’s petrol variants ahead of its India debut.
The 2020 Honda City petrol will be offered in three variants: V, VX and ZX. It’ll continue to utilise Honda’s tried and tested BS6-compliant 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine. The document reveals that this motor develops 121PS of power, 2PS more than the current City’s engine. The petrol City will be offered with a manual transmission and a CVT. Honda will offer the CVT unit on all three variants.
Apart from the petrol engine, we also expect Honda to offer the City with its 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel motor with mechanical upgrades to meet BS6 emission standards. In its current iteration, this i-DTEC motor puts out 100PS of power and 200Nm of torque. While the existing City diesel is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, Honda could offer the fifth-gen City diesel with a CVT just like the Amaze.
Honda took the wraps off the fifth generation City in Thailand in November 2019. The India-spec model is expected to be launched in the country by mid-2020. Honda has been testing the City in India for a while and you can have a look at it here in detailed spy shots.
Considering the list of upgrades, expect prices for the 2020 City to start above the fourth-gen model (Rs 9.91 lakh onwards, ex-showroom). The 2020 Honda City will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento BS6, Hyundai Verna 2020, Toyota Yaris and the upcoming Skoda Rapid TSI.
