Ludhiana: Four men snatched a vehicle of a taxi driver from near Nanaksar area early on Thursday after two of the accused had hired the vehicle from Delhi.
Taxi driver Brij Bahadur, 35, of Faridabad claimed that two men had hired the cab from ISBT Delhi for Moga. They began the journey at around 11 pm in his Hyundai accent car (HR38V-7783).
At about 7 am, a Hyundai Verna car stopped in front of his vehicle near Nanaksar. He added that the passengers and occupants then overpowered him, snatched his car and sped away towards Moga.
Ludhiana Rural SSP Vivek Sheel Soni said a case has been registered under Sections 379 B (snatching) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and a probe has been started. He added that sections under arms act have not been added so far as the complainant was not sure whether the accused had weapon with them or not.
Police said according to driver, the two accused, who had hired the vehicle from Delhi, were apparently not from Punjab as they were communicating with each other in Hindi.
SHO City Jagraon Police station, Jagjit Singh said that the driver had not taken the contact number or address of the duo as they had not hired the vehicle from regular taxi stand. He added that there is no CCTV camera installed at the spot where the incident reportedly happened. Cops meanwhile are scanning other CCTV cameras installed on the route to get clues about the incident.
