Nagpur: Amid
coronavirus scare,
Nagpur Municipal Corporation has cancelled leave of all its doctors. “Except in case of medical emergency, no leave will be granted to them,” said NMC health committee chairman
Virendra Kukreja here on Thursday.
“Apart from setting up round-the-clock control room, NMC has deployed six doctors to monitor foreign travelers arriving at Nagpur airport,” he said. The health department (medicine) will monitor health of all the travelers for 14 days and civic body is well prepared to tackle the disease, said Kukreja.
“All NMC’s primary health centres, clinics and hospitals have ample stock of medicines required for fever, cough and cold, the early symptoms of coronavirus,” he said while addressing a press conference. The civic body will disinfect the residence and neighbours’ properties of the city’s first patient found positive for the virus.
In a press statement early in the morning, Mayor Sandip Joshi appealed to the citizens not to venture out unless necessary. He also urged citizens not to panic due to rumours being spread on social media. Kukreja, however, clarified NMC will play the role of coordinator between any patient and government medical college.
To a query, Kukreja said it has not yet issued any instruction to close down civic body-run schools and market places. “Besides, we will also approach all malls, multiplexes, cinema halls, super markets as well as private hospitals to increase hygiene,” he said.
Kukreja said NMC had already provided full quarantine body kits and was fumigating all its clinics, hospitals and primary hospitals. It has also issued an advisory asking people to desist from shopping, public functions and large gatherings. He said these directions have been necessitated due to severity of the novel coronavirus and the importance of taking precautions.
As a precautionary measure, NMC has cancelled mayor’s innovation award and women and children welfare department’s event, said additional municipal commissioner Ram Joshi. NMC has not yet cancelled any bookings in Suresh Bhat auditorium.
Meanwhile, NMC’s transport department has also issued advisory to all bus operators to ensure the buses are washed and disinfected daily.
