THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two more coronavirus (Covid-19) cases were confirmed in Kerala on Thursday, taking the total cases reported in the state so far to 19. Three patients were earlier discharged from hospitals after treatment.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters that the latest two positive cases had come from Middle East countries. "One person is admitted to Pariyaram Medical College in Kannur and has a travel history from Dubai. The other person is in the isolation ward at Thrissur General Hospital and has travelled to the state from Qatar," he said.
Reassuring the public that the infection was at present under control in the state and there was no cause for alarm, the CM however warned against becoming complacent. He listed out precautions those under home quarantine should strictly follow and how communities should maintain continuous vigil.
The person admitted in Thrissur had taken the same flight that brought the Covid-19 patients from Ranni to Kochi on February 29. A third person in Thiruvananthapuram, who had come from Italy and had toured several other countries, has tested positive for the virus in preliminary tests. This person was admitted to hospital on Wednesday after he developed fever. “The preliminary test was conducted at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. His samples have been sent to Alappuzha NIV now,” health minister K K Shailaja said.
As many as 4,180 people are under observation in the state. Till date, 1,337 samples have been sent for tests and 950 results have been received.
