Tall tribute: G+12 tower to house teachers at MNNIT

Prayagraj: Without teachers our lives would have no class. So, in a towering tribute to mentors who fire imagination of students and instil in them a love for learning, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) will raise arguably the region’s tallest building to house teachers on its campus.
The Union HRD ministry has already sanctioned a corpus of Rs 40 crore for the G+12 building with a total 48 flats, which will boast all modern amenities.
“The ambitious project has received the Centre’s go-ahead and funds. The central public works department (CPWD) will complete construction within the next 30 months,” said MNNIT director Rajeev Tripathi.
The new building will come up on a swathe of land on the campus that already houses a hostel for students, living quarters for teachers and the NIT guest house, among others. “Each of the 48 flats will boast a 3BHK floor plan while the tower will be equipped with a wide stairway, elevators and firefighting arrangements,” the director said.
Professor Tripathi maintained that the institute had long been facing an accommodation crunch for teachers because of which a detailed project report was prepared and sent to the Union ministry for approval and sanction of funds. “We received the nod recently. Construction will begin at the earliest,” he said.
Currently, the MNNIT has 223 teachers against 362 sanctioned posts of professors, associate professors and assistant professors. A recruitment process is underway to fill up the 108 vacant posts.
“We must hence overcome the accommodation crisis to ensure both old and new teachers are allotted quarters as per their entitlement,” Tripathi added.
