Two constables face inquiries

Vadodara: Two policemen of Vadodara rural police have come under the scanner in connection with two different prohibition cases.
The first case pertains to an audio clip of a phone call conversation between a constable of a branch of rural police and a bootlegger. In the audio, the cop can be allegedly heard trying to save the bootlegger in connection with a recent liquor raid at Ratanpur village near Vadodara city.
As the audio clip went viral on social media and was widely shared on WhatsApp, an inquiry was ordered by the superintendent of police. The deputy superintendent of police of Dabhoi division K V Solanki is conducting the probe and the constable’s statement was recorded on Wednesday.
In another case, a head constable of surveillance team of Dabhoi police station was suspended for not following proper procedures. The cop Munaf Mohammed had seized liquor and was chasing an accused during which he went out of the police station’s jurisdiction and did not follow the procedure of conducting ‘panchnama’. “An inquiry has been ordered against him, so he has been suspended,” said superintendent of police Sudhir Desai.
