Prayagraj: A massive cleanliness drive was organised under the aegis of the plastic-free Ganga project, below the new Yamuna bridge, Arail area, Naini, on Thursday. The drive was carried out under the joint efforts of development alternatives, New Delhi and United Nations environment programme (UNEP).
The National Productivity Council (NPC) as a technical partner and SWARG, an NGO and local partner, supported this initiative. The main objective of the campaign was to collect different types of plastic
waste, count and weigh it and record its data on the prescribed format and use it for research and data analysis.
NPC technical team members carried out the cleanliness drive by demarcating 9,275 sqft area. The total grass weight of the collected garbage was 342kg. After separation of the plastic waste, it was found to be 122 kg (35% of total waste collected). Plastic waste was mainly found in the form of polythene bags (less than 50 microns category), milk packets, pharmaceutical wrappers, spice packets, injections, canes and plastic cement bags. Polyethylene bags were found mostly in plastic waste. The collected waste was eventually handed over to the municipal carriage for proper disposal.
