Nagpur: With more than 15 Covid-19 suspected patients admitted, the 32-bed isolation ward of the GMCH saw the highest number of admissions on Thursday since it was set up a few days ago.
The hospital authorities are taking special care of the suspected patients to avoid spreading of the infection among doctors treating them.
GMCH medical superintendent Dr Avinash Gawande said that they have constituted two teams of doctors and nurses who alternate duties in the isolation ward.
“No staff or doctor other than the members of these teams can work in isolation ward,” he said.
The hospital kitchen is also cooking additional food for the suspects. GMCH has also started three help desks for visitors who have travel history, symptoms and wanted to get themselves tested.
After the number of patients admitted in this ward increased suddenly by 14 on Thursday, the kitchen department had to work extra to prepare nutritious food for the admitted suspects.
The entire family of the US-returned man who tested positive was admitted to GMCH on Thursday.
Authorities have provided them all the facilities. While there is a gross shortage of sanitizers and masks in medical stores across the city, the GMCH has enough stock of these essential goods. This could be credited to the advanced purchase plan by the GMCH dean Dr Sajal Mitra. The hospital also has enough stock of medicines.
At IGGMCH, a 250bed isolation ward has been set up. The laboratory facility at the hospital is functioning 24X7 now. The samples of 14 people in close contact of the Covid-19 positive patient were being tested throughout Thursday.
Swab samples of the nine suspects from Yavatmal reached at Mayo Hospital on Thursday evening and testing was under way. The lab is also testing samples coming from Telangana, Chhattisgarh and parts of Madhya Pradesh on a daily basis. The isolation ward in the IGGMCH currently has one ‘positive’ patient.
The administration has decided to convert MLA hostel into a quarantine building soon. All patients having travel history to seven most affected countries will be kept under isolation here, if need be.
