MUMBAI: Shiv Sema mouthpiece Saamna on Thursday riled the Congress for ignoring the party’s young leaders such as
Jyotiraditya Scindia and Sachin Pilot. In an editorial, Saamna said aging Congressmen pulled out all stops to cut Scindia to size, which prompted him to join the BJP. The Congress Party is an ally in the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra.
Saying that Scindia enjoyed considerable political clout in several parts of Madhya Pradesh, including Gwalior and Guna, Saamna said, “In fact, Scindia was the Congress’ face during the MP assembly elections. However, party seniors conspired against him while the Congress high command looked on helplessly.”
“The BJP chanakyas need not take credit for the precipitating political crisis in MP. The Congress Party’s present predicament is because of its cavalier attitude, ego and the indifference displayed by the seniors towards young leaders,” Saamna added.
Stating that Scindia's demands—a Rajya Sabha seat or presidentship of the MP Congress committee—were reasonable, Saamna said the Congress high command should have pacified the millennial leader by accepting one of the two demands.
“Pushing Scindia, who lost the Lok Sabha election, to the backburner, didn’t eventually work to Congress’s advantage,” remarked the Shiv Sena mouthpiece. Saamna, though, added that Kamal Nath, the Congress chief minister of MP, was not an amateur fighter. “Kamal Nath is a veteran of many political combats. He will not give up so easily.”
Saamna said the Congress fared miserably in MP and Rajasthan in the 2019 Lok Sabha election as the high command failed to rope in young blood in the party. A keen power struggle is also on in Rajasthan between young and dynamic Sachin Pilot and CM Ashok Gehlot. It is being widely speculated that if the conflict is not amicably resolved, Rajasthan too will go the MP way, warned Saamna.
Saamna scotched all talk of the Maha Vikas Aghadi regime being targeted by the BJP in the days to come. “The Maha Vikas Aghadi government is stable and strong. Not even a fly can enter the MVA citadel,” declared Saamna.
