The Canacona bus stand is in urgent need of attention as many roof sheets has been blown off and the studs used to secure the sheets has rusted. Locals fear that the studs may fall on any unsuspecting visitors which might result in grievous injuries.
The open roof at many places of the Canacona bus terminus may once again pose a threat to the commuters and shopkeepers if the sheets are not replaced before the monsoon.
It›s been almost 15 years since any renovation has been carried out at the bus stand. The roof sheets were blown off in 2018 and have not been replaced ever since.

When this correspondent visited the bus terminus, it was seen that the open metal framework was exposed with roofing sheets missing at many places. Exposure to rain has also corroded the metal framework and sheets have become loose due to the corrosion of bolts holding the sheets to the roof.

Commuters to the bus stand have a tough time in case of heavy rain as people have to walk with care to avoid falling on the slippery surface of the bus
stand.

Speaking to this daily, shopkeepers said that though they have not given anything in writing, they regularly speak to the KTC officials to take up the repairs.

Commuters at the bus stand said that the government is not bothered to repair the roof. Its two years now and if not repaired, the remaining sheets may be blown off this season, they said.

Sources in the KTC have said that an estimate of repairs was sent long back for approval, and the head office at Margao is constantly following up with higher authorities for the financial nod.

The Canacona KTC bus stand which is a landmark at Chaudi, the commercial and administrative town of Canacona taluka was constructed and inaugurated just 15 years ago.
Locals say that the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation which built the iconic bus stand was created so that quality of construction in public works could be maintained.
