Students, vigilance staff clash in MSU

Panjabi suffered minor injuries on his hand and was taken to SSG Hospital
Vadodara: Students and vigilance staff of the MS University (MSU) got into a scuffle at the head office on Thursday morning. The students were demonstrating at the head office over the delay in declaration of results of commerce and other faculties’ exams.
The group led by general secretary of the MSU Students’ Union, Rakesh Panjabi, at one point tried to enter the head office building which led to the scuffle. On one hand students tried to enter, on the other, the vigilance staff and security guards tried to push them away. In the melee, several students including Panjabi were pushed away.
“All we wanted was to either meet the vice-chancellor or registrar or the deputy registrar, but since none of them were coming out, we requested the vigilance staff to allow us to enter the building and meet them,” said Panjabi.
“When they were pushing us away, I requested them that I am the general secretary and the senate member so at least I should be allowed in, but a couple of security guards pushed me away,” he added. Panjabi suffered minor injuries on his hand and was taken to SSG Hospital.
The students claimed that the exams of the odd semester ended on December 15, but even after three months the results had not been declared by the university. “Mid-semester exams of the even semester have been conducted and the final exams will begin in the first week of April. Yet we don’t know our performance of the previous semester,” said a student.
Panjabi said that the results of all the semesters of BCom were being awaited, and the results of some semesters of engineering and technology faculty and arts faculty were still to be declared. “On Friday too we will continue with our protests,” he said.
“We have included additional human resource in completing the process. But assessments as such take time because it is a manual process and commerce faculty has over 15,000 students,” said MSU’s officiating registrar K M Chudasama. He added that by next week the issue would be resolved.
