A woman has been caught allegedly drink driving while on the way to get a burger.

Officers spotted the 55-year-old allegedly swerving across the road in her Toyota Yaris on Thursday at Mittagong, in southern New South Wales, and pulled her over.

The woman allegedly returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.219, making her nearly four times over the legal limit.

When police asked the driver why she was driving at the time, the woman explained she was going to get a burger.

After further investigation, police discovered the woman already had her licence suspended until 2024 due to previous offences.

The driver was then taken by police to Southern Highlands Police Station where her positive reading was confirmed.

She was charged with high-range prescribed concentration of alcohol, using an unregistered motor vehicle and driving a motor vehicle while disqualified.

The alleged drink-driver is due to face Moss Vale Local Court on Tuesday 21 April 2020.
