Coronavirus pandemic: Here’s how to stock grocery smartly!

While Coronavirus has been declared a pandemic and a global threat and most of the people around you have been asked to undergo self-quarantine. Every since the news spread, people have started stocking up their pantry leaving the supermarkets running out of stock for basic grocery items. If this is making you panic, do not worry. You do not need to order kilos of wheat and rice, just stock up smartly so that you do not end up living in a barn eventually ruining the stock. Here are a few tips to hoard cleverly without leaving the stores dry.
Pick the grains smartly

Wheat and rice are our basic food and hence we definitely need to stock them up. But do not hoard as they soon get weevils. Order only an extra packet of the quantity you generally consume. So, if your consumption pattern for wheat is that of 5 Kg, you can order 10 Kg instead.

Shop for cereals and eggs

Cereals, eggs, bread and butter are a few things that can be consumed in a variety of ways. Get extra packs of these so that in any kind of food crisis, they keep you healthy. Moreover, their shelf-life is more, hence they are a better choice for hoarding.
Canned foods
Agree or not, canned foods are a great help in such crisis. Pick a minimum of two cans of fish, fruits and vegetables (especially the ones that can be used in a variety of ways).

Butter and sauces
Bread butter is a saviour in every way. It is stomach-filling and a preferred combination by all age-groups. Ketchup can come handy most of the time, be it topping instant noodles, bread, pizza or pakoras.

Root vegetables

Since they have a greater shelf-life than any other vegetables, stock up potatoes, carrots, onions etc. If they get soft, soak them in a bowl of ice water until they firm up.

Sanitary requirements
From sanitary pads to toothpaste and bodywash, keep an extra pack of each with you, just in case there is an emergency and the stores run out of stock.
