ERODE: A wild elephant trampled a man to death near Ammapet in Erode district of Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as R Selvam alias Ponnusamy, 46, of Konapuliyanthottam near Ammapet. He was a farmer.
Around 4am, Selvam came out of his home hearing an elephant’s trumpet. “The elephant suddenly came in front of him and trampled him,” an official in Sennampatty forest division said. Selvam died on the spot.
The forest department registered a case.
