Coronavirus outbreak: Cristiano Ronaldo in quarantine after Juventus teammate Daniele Rugani tests positive

Cristiano Ronaldo has been forced into quarantine in his Madeira home in Portugal after his Juventus teammate Daniele Rugani tested positive for the novel coronavirus. With the death toll well past 800, Italy is one of the worst affected countries due to the coronavirus outbreak, which has now been declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Portugal legend flew to his country to pay a visit to his mother, who recently suffered a stroke before the news broke. Ronaldo had shared the dressing room with Rugani on Sunday when Juventus beat Inter Milan. 

Players and officials from both the teams, who came in contact with Rugani, have been quarantined according to the regulations issued by the health authorities of the country. Sporting events in Italy have been cancelled till April 3. Juventus’ next Champions League match against Lyon is likely to get postponed. 

Rugani is now the second professional footballer after Hannover 96 defender Timo Hubers to test positive for the virus.

In North America, the NBA season has been postponed indefinitely. La Liga has been suspended for two weeks. There are question marks over the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well, which is scheduled to start on March 29.
