LUCKNOW: Ten new cases of swine flu were reported from the city in the past three days, taking the tally to 42 this year.
Two boys — a six-year-old and an eight-year-old — from Fazullahganj and Indiranagar, respectively, are among the fresh cases. They have been admitted to a hospital in Gomtinagar and Balrampur hospital. According to health officials, all the patients are out of danger, and eight of them are recovering at home.
In 2019, total 576 swine flu cases were reported in the city. Expert attribute moderate temperatures and high humidity levels for the surge in cases. The city witnessed heavy rainfall towards January end, resulting in high humidity levels in February. The rains and cloudy weather also kept temperatures low. The same is continuing in March, with fresh round of thundershowers in the past 10 days.
Dr K P Tripathi, in-charge of district communicable disease unit, said, “We are monitoring the situation and there is no need to panic. As weather conditions are still favourable to H1N1, people only need to take precautions. The virus is expected to linger till March end and will begin to weaken from April first week when weather turns dry and day temperature will rise above 25 degrees Celsius.”
On the need for isolation wards for patients of suspected coronavirus and H1N1, chief medical officer Narendra Agrawal said, “The isolation wards in many hospitals for coronavirus and swine flu are same as no corona case has surfaced in the city so far, but if any H1N1 and coronavirus cases are brought in the same hospital we will arrange for separate wards.”
