The Nifty March 2020 were trading at 9,580, a discount of 10.15 points compared with the spot at 9,590.15.

Turnover on the National Stock Exchange's & options (F&O) segment was Rs 26.32 lakh crore compared with Rs 14.25 lakh crore reported in the previous session.

In the cash market, the Nifty 50 index tanked 868.25 points or 8.3% to close at 9,590.15.

The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market's expectation of volatility over the near term, jumped 30.44% to 41.16.

On the options front, the Nifty option chain for 26 March 2020 expiry showed maximum call open interest (OI) of 22.97 lakh at the 12,000 strike price. Maximum put OI of 26.66 lakh contracts was seen at 11,000 strike price.

State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank were the top traded individual stock contracts in F&O segment of NSE.

SBI March 2020 futures were at 214.85, compared with spot closing price of 215.40. HDFC Bank March 2020 futures were at 1,025.25 compared with spot closing price of 1032. ICICI Bank March 2020 futures were at 431, compared with spot closing price of 432.95.

The F&O contracts for March expire on 26 March 2020
