Mother and son killed, nine injured in clash in Unnao

KANPUR: A woman and her son were killed while nine others injured in a clash during ‘Holika Dahan’ rituals between two families at Sukh Lal Kheda in Gangaghat police station area of Unnao district on Monday.
According to ASP Vinod Kumar Pandey, the incident took place on Monday night when the two families were performing the ‘Holika Dahan’, a ritual associated with the festival.
An argument broke out between the two families over some old issue, leading to the clash, he added.
“Both the groups attacked each other with sticks. Later, one group allegedly resorted to firing resulting in injuries to a woman identified as Gomti and her son Arvind”, he said.
The police official said both the injured died in the hospital.
“The deceased belonged to one of the two families. Six people from one side, and three from the other group sustained wounds. They are undergoing treatment at Lala Lajpat Rai hospital,” he said.
Both the sides have registered complaints against each other and the investigation is on, the police official said further and added, “Police and PAC personnel have been deployed in the area to ward of any kind of backlash.”
