Industrial output rose 2 per cent in January from a year earlier, government data showed on Thursday.
Analysts polled by Reuters had forecast a rise of 0.7 per cent.
Cumulative growth in April-January over the corresponding period of the previous year was 0.5 per cent, the data showed.
