JAIPUR: MLAs supporting the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh, including Independents, reached Jaipur on Wednesday afternoon amid a political crisis triggered by former Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia leaving the party and joining BJP.
The Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh is facing a severe crisis following the resignation of 21 MLAs said to be loyal to Scindia. Congress chief whip in the state assembly Mahesh Joshi, tasked with making arrangements for the MLAs’ stay, claimed 89 MLAs had arrived in Jaipur.

But sources said that only 82 MLAs have come to Jaipur along with three Independents.
“We had hosted Maharashtra MLAs in Jaipur in November last year, prior to government formation there, and the results have been good,” Joshi said, adding that the result of the current MP crisis will also end up “in favour of Congress”.
The MLAs have been lodged at two resorts, Buena Vista and Tree House, on the Jaipur-Delhi highway on the city’s outskirts.
The MLAs arrived at Jaipur airport around 2.15 pm on a special flight from Bhopal and were received by CM Ashok Gehlot and other party leaders, including state transport minister Pratap Singh Kachariyawas, party chief whip Mahesh Joshi, deputy chief whip Mahendra Chaudhary, and MLAs Rafeeq Khan and Amin Kagzi.
Senior Congress memebrs, including AICC general secretaries Mukul Wasnik and Harish Rawat, also have reached Jaipur. CM Ashok Gehlot, too, went to Buena Vista resort to hold discussions with the MLAs and senior party members.
At Jaipur airport, the MLAs looked in high spirits and claimed that some of them who had gone to Bengaluru were not Scindia loyalists but had been misguided and would soon return to Congress.
Sajjan Verma, PWD minister in the Kamal Nath-led Congress government in MP, said he would go to Bengaluru and bring the MLAs back to Congress.
The MLAs told reporters there was no threat to the Kamal Nath government and that it would survive. They lashed out at Jyotiraditya Scindia for betraying Congress and joining BJP for selfish ends.
A Congress legislator, Sunil Saraf, said BJP was trying to end democracy by dismantling the party system but would not succeed. “The Kamal Nath government will complete its full term. There is no threat. We all are together,” Saraf said. He said the Congress MLAs who supported Scindia had been “misled and deceived” by BJP.
MP Congress member Kantilal Bhuria, who also came to Jaipur with the MLAs, said, “There is no threat to the government. The state government has the majority.” He added that the MLAs would visit tourist sites in Jaipur.
Congress MLA Harsh Yadav said those who had gone with Scindia would be rejected by the people.
