VARANASI: Bharatiya Janata Party’s OBC cell Sonbhadra district unit general secretary Sunil Giri was brutally thrashed by Renukoot police outpost in-charge and his colleagues after he allegedly passed obscene comments on police, on Tuesday.
Several BJP workers reached the outpost to save him. The police had to use force to disperse them after which they staged a sit-in. To pacify the situation, SP Sonbhadra Ashish Srivastava ordered to attach the outpost in-charge Anjani Kumar Rai to police lines and engaged a circle officer to probe into the matter. Srivastava said that future action will be decided on arrival of investigation report.
According to sources, Rai was standing outside his outpost on Tuesday morning when Giri reached there and started reciting Holi songs followed by obscene comments on Rai. The cop asked him to stop such recitals. When Giri did not stop, Rai allegedly slapped him.
As he continued to recite comments, Rai and his colleagues allegdely thrashed him inside the outpost. On hearing his cries, several BJP supporters reached there to save him.
In the meantime, inspector Pipari Abhay Narain Tiwari and other senior officers also reached there. They tried to pacify the situation but later had to use force to disperse the BJP supporters. Giri was admitted to Hindalco hospital.
The BJP supporters returned and staged a sit-in demanding suspension of Rai. BJP’s Duddhi assembly area in-charge Rakesh Pandey said that if Giri was involved in unlawful activity he should have been booked but police brutality was unacceptable. The stir was called-off after the SP announced to attach Rai to police lines.
