Amritsar: Smuggler held, 10kg heroin seized

AMRITSAR: Amritsar rural police have arrested a smuggler and have recovered 10kg of heroin from his possession.
Senior superintendent police Vikramjit Singh Duggal told reporters on Thursday the police had arrested one Davinder Singh, resident of Manawala, during an anti-narcotics operation. Upon his confession, the police recovered the contraband from his possession, he added.
Police also recovered a car and two mobile phones Davinder’s possession, the SSP said.
Explaining Singh's modus operandi, Duggal said that the accused had hired some people who used to cross the Pakistan border along with their tractors on pretext of tilling the fields. While returning to India, they would bring the contraband with them, he said
Duggal said police were trying to identify Davinder's aides.
Duggal said that Davinder and his aides were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers to receive the consignment from across the border.
The SSP said a case under Section 21, 22, 29, 61, 85 of NDPS Act, Section 3-34-20 of the Indian Passport Act and Section 14 of the Foreigners Act had been registered at Lopoke police station.
