Gujarat: 59 arrested for disrupting communal harmony in Amreli

RAJKOT: Amreli police arrested 59 people for allegedly disrupting communal harmony in Jafarabad town and abusing cops on the duty.
The mob of nearly 2,000 people comprising both the communities gathered in a small town on Wednesday evening following a clash over a petty issue, police said.
Later, people from both the communities started shouting slogans and pelting stones at each other, they added.
“When police reached the spot, the mob started pelting stones on them as well. They also insulted a woman sub-inspector and broke her helmet,” superintendent of police Nirlipt Rai said.
According to the police, the mob ransacked the their vehicles and injured policeman.
