Two killed in Bihar, cash looted in Siwan

PATNA/ARA: While an official of a private finance company and a youth were killed in two separate incidents in Saharsa and Bhojpur districts late on Wednesday night, unidentified armed criminals looted over Rs.73,000 from a staff of a private bank in Siwan district on Thursday.
A report from Saharsa said that a 26-year-old employee of a private finance company, Pankaj Kumar, was killed by unidentified armed criminals near the office of the company under the Sadar police station area around 11 pm on Wednesday. He was stated to be a resident of Singhia Chakdhera village under the Kochadhaman police station area in Kishanganj district.
Police said that Pankaj was attacked when he waiting outside the office of the company. He was rushed to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 1 am on Thursday. The station house officer of Sadar police station RK Singh said that a staff of the company has been detained for interrogation. “The call detail record of the deceased’s mobile phone is being obtained for further investigation,” he added.
Preliminary investigation suggested that Pankaj was in constant touch with the suspect soon after he boarded a passenger train for Saharsa to assume duty on Thursday. He alighted from the train at Karu Khirkhiri halt and reached the office. However, assailants fired at him from close range when he was waiting outside the main entrance gate and escaped on a motorbike.
The house owner Hardey Singh, who had rented out the flat to the company, told police that he rushed to the spot after hearing the sound of firing only to find Pankaj lying in a pool of blood. He was admitted to a private hospital for treatment but died around 1 am on Thursday, Singh said, adding involvement of some insiders cannot be ruled out.
A report from Ara said that a 27-year-old man, Sonu Singh, was stabbed to death at Maharaja village under Shahpur police station in Bhojpur late on Wednesday night. Jagdishpur SDPO Shyam Kishore Ranjan said that the reason behind the murder was yet to be ascertained. “His body with multiple stab wounds was recovered near the village temple,” he said.
According to the Shahpur SHO Avinash Kumar, a sniffer dog was pressed into service to trace the whereabouts of the criminals. Love affair is stated to be the reason behind the killing of the deceased, who was the son of a retired Army personnel.
Reports reaching the police headquarters said that four unidentified armed criminals intercepted one Upendra Kumar (30) and looted Rs73,390 when he was returning to his office after collecting money from some local residents on his motorbike in Siwan on Thursday noon. The incident took place near Bhagwarjpur village under the Andar police station area of the district around 1.30 pm.
On getting information, Siwan sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Jitendra Pandey rushed to the spot and inquired about the incident. Later Pandey told reporters in Siwan that efforts were on to ascertain the identity of the criminals involved in the crime. “An FIR has been lodged on the victim’s statement. We hope the case will be cracked soon,” he added.
