BHUBANESWAR: Authorities of the Swami Vivekanand
National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (
SVNIRTAR), an autonomous institute run by the central government, at Olatpur in Cuttack district alleged that the
Utkal University has selected ‘ineligible’ members to the board of studies (BoS) for
physiotherapy and occupational therapy courses in the institute.
Courses of the SVNIRTAR are affiliated to Utkal University. Therefore, the university has reconstituted the BoS for the courses like bachelor and masters degree in physiotherapy, occupational therapy and prosthetics & orthotics. It has selected 11 members to the board on March 3. On March 6, Shakti Prasad Das, director of the SVNIRTAR, in a letter to Utkal University VC
Soumendra Mohan Patnaik, informed him about the ‘irregularities’ in selecting members of BoS. Patnaik said he will personally look into the matter. “We had issued a notification regarding selection of members of BoS last month. When there were complaints, we changed the members. If the institute complains against the recent notification, we will discuss the issue and examine what can be done,” he added.
